New Richmond man killed in crash
A New Richmond man died of injuries resulting from a two-car crash Wednesday.
Larry W. Scheel, 55, was killed when he apparently ran a stop sign and the intersection of 220th St. and 170th Ave. in the town of Emerald, crashed into a pickup truck and overturned, St. Croix County Sheriff Dennis Hillstead said.
The accident report said Scheel was traveling north on 220th in a 2000 Ford F250 and went through the stop sign when he was struck by a 2006 Chevy Silverado driven by Roger W. Fisher, 48, Emerald who was traveling west on 170th Ave at 10:50 a.m.
Scheel died at the scene, Fisher was taken to a Baldwin Hospital with non life threatening injuries and John M. Bazille, 54, Emerald, a passenger in Scheel's vehicle, was take to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with serious injuries.
Neither the drivers nor the passenger were wearing seatbelts, the sheriff said.
The accident marks the 12th fatal on county roadways this year, compared with 11 in 2008.
