Encore Wind Ensemble performs

The Encore Wind Ensemble, a 45-member band under the direction of Jerry Luckhardt, will perform "American Masters" at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at The Phipps Center for the Arts. Soprano Carolyn Pratt will be featured in a program that includes "Chester Overture for Band" by William Schuman, "Westside Story" by Leonard Bernstein, "Country Band March" by Charles Ives and "Easter Monday on the White House Lawn" by John Philip Sousa. Sign up for art camp

The annual Phipps Summer Art Camp, with week-long classes offered June 16-Aug. 8, remains open for enrollment at The Phipps Center for the Arts. Class fees vary.

Audition for 'Grease'

Auditions continue for "Grease," the 1950s musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, on Thursday, May 15, at The Phipps Center for the Arts. Callbacks are Monday, May 19, at 7 p.m. Director Beth Reidenbach is looking for 14 to 20 young adults who must be at least 16 years old; one adult female and one adult male. All roles include singing and dancing. Actors auditioning will be asked to read from the script, learn a dance routine and sing. Actors may bring a prepared song or sing one of the familiar songs from the show. Scripts and song sheets will be available 30-minutes prior to auditions. Rehearsals begin the week of May 18. Nine performances are scheduled July 11-Aug. 3 on Fridays and Saturdays (not July 19) at 8 p.m. and Sundays, July 20 and Aug. 3, at 2:30 p.m. on the main stage. Henna workshop set

A henna workshop for ages 12-adult is being offered from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 10, at The Phipps Center for the Arts. This class is recommended for mothers and daughters, or grandmothers and granddaughters to take together to celebrate Mother's Day. Participants will learn about this form of body art, which is based on the traditional Eastern art form. Students will receive recipes for making paste and learn how to mix it, experiment with various application techniques, and learn how to do both traditional and contemporary design work. Each student will receive a henna design applied by instructor Jane Mannetter. The class fee is $29. Jazz band returns twice

The Upper Mississippi Jazz Band will return to The Phipps Center for the Arts at 7 p.m. Sundays, May 18 and June 1. The seven-piece ensemble plays traditional Dixieland jazz music. All tickets are $22. For reservations, contact The Phipps ticket office at (715) 386-8409 or www.ThePhipps.org.

Old Gem stages 'Charlie and Chocolate Factory'

The Old Gem Theater in New Richmond is presenting "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 31, and 6 p.m. Sunday, June 1.

Roald Dahl's story tells the story of Charlie Bucket, a boy who discovers a golden ticket that allows him to join a tour of Willy Wonka's magical candy factory. The Old Gem adaptation follows the eccentric Willy Wonka as he guides the lucky golden ticket winners through his factory where they discover marvelous and enchanting things and each child "gets just what he or she deserves."
