Show honors Jason Davis
5 Eyewitness News "On the Road with Jason Davis" will showcase the host's 40 years in broadcasting in the show "Where It All Began" on Sunday, Nov. 9, from 10:35 to 11:35 p.m. with a re-broadcast Sunday, Nov. 23, from 1 to 2 p.m. Find out how this Australian television journalist with the British accent found his way to Minnesota and went on to produce thousands of stories about ordinary Minnesotans. The show will also feature stories from Jason's travels over the past three decades, his visits to more than 35 countries and his early days as a British Merchant Navy seaman and cash register salesman. Davis, who lives in Hudson, was inducted into the 2008 Museum of Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
Phipps dance classes continue
The Phipps Center for the Arts offers dance technique classes for children and adults beginning in November and continuing through May 2009. Students can now register for ballroom dance, swing and salsa, jazz/hip-hop, musical theater, tap, ballet, lyrical, modern, preballet/tap, and bharatanatyam (South Indian classical dance). The class year is divided into four quarters of eight weeks each. All instructors are experienced as both educators and performers. Holiday sale starts Nov. 1
"A Gift by the Hand," the annual holiday sale of handmade items by local and regional artists, runs Nov. 1-Dec. 31, in the Gift Gallery of The Phipps Center for the Arts. Members of The Phipps receive a 20 percent discount on all purchases opening weekend, Nov. 1 and 2, and a 10 percent discount from Nov. 3 through the end of the sale. "A Gift by the Hand" hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, noon-3 p.m., as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters. Artists wanted for show
The River Falls Community Arts Base is looking for artists to participate in its annual Art Crawl, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, in downtown River Falls during River Dazzle Extravaganza. Each artist will be paired with a business during the Art Crawl. The event is free to both the artist and the public.
