New summer choir starts
New summer choir starts
Hudson High School Choral Director Andy Haase is starting the Hudson Community Summer Choir and invites area singers to join. The group will rehearse at the school from 7-9 p.m. Mondays beginning June 15 and concluding with a public performance at 7 p.m. Monday, July 27. The choir is open to any singer interested in performing challenging, fun and rewarding choral literature. There is no audition process, but previous singing experience is recommended. Garage sale at Phipps
A one-of-a-kind garage sale with such items such as original artwork and costumes is scheduled from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, May 29, and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at The Phipps Center for the Arts. Also for sale will be table saws, office supplies, art materials and other goods pulled from storage. All proceeds will benefit ongoing programs at The Phipps. The sale will be held outside the building near the corner of First and Vine streets and in the Scene Shop, which can be entered through the garage door on Vine Street. Summer art classes set
Enrollment is now open for Summer Art Camp classes in drawing, painting, sculpture, mosaic, puppetry and more for ages 4-18, from June 22-Aug. 14, at The Phipps Center for the Arts. Class fees range from $25 (for a one-day, two-hour class) to $239 (for a five-day, seven-hour class). Class sizes are limited, so early registration is encouraged.
Dance audition on June 6
Auditions for "Dances, Chances, Circumstances - Visceral" are from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6, in The Phipps dance studio. Dancers age 15 and older are needed for a full-length production featuring area choreographers. Styles include tap, hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, modern, and ballet. Dancers may audition for any or all styles. Those auditioning should arrive at 9:30 a.m. to register. No preparation is necessary. Dancers should secure their hair back, wear appropriate dance attire and shoes, and warm up on their own. Rehearsals begin June 15 for two or more evenings per week. Tai chi continues
Tai chi classes continue from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Thursdays, June 18-Aug. 6, at The Phipps Center for the Arts. According to instructor Mark Tomlinson, regular practice of tai chi improves muscle and joint function, is often cited as a therapy for osteopathic and rheumatoid arthritis, and improves athletic performance. The class is open to beginning and experienced practitioners and offers the Yang style long form of tai chi chuan. Cost for eight sessions is $96. Show off your antiques
The New Richmond Heritage Center is holding its 10th annual Antique Show and Tell from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at the center, 1100 Heritage Drive. Those attending can get their antiques or collectibles appraised for free. The program is based on the PBS program "Antiques Road Show." Participants may bring in no more than two collectable or antique items for appraisal by a panel of qualified show dealers. Everyone is welcome to participate or just watch. The annual heritage celebration Sju-Lag Stevne is scheduled June 25-28 at UW-River Falls, sponsored by Norwegian Stevner Inc. Areas of Norway represented are Telemark, Toten, Numedal, Sigdal, Hadeland, Land and Ringerike Drammen District. Telemark is hosting the event. Hudsonite is 'Joseph'
Scott Stoneking of Hudson will portray Joseph in the Masquers Theater Company summer production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Shows run July 2-26 at Forest Lake (Minn.) High School. More information about the show and tickets can be found at www.masquerstheatre.org.
