Email News Alerts

At the exact moment President Obama was speaking her praises, the body of Army Sergeant Amy Krueger was being driven home to Kiel.

Krueger, 29, was one of 13 people killed in the Fort Hood shooting massacre. Her body was flown to Milwaukee, where it left just after noon Tuesday with a law enforcement convoy.

They arrived in Kiel around 2 p.m. And while they were on the way, the president delivered personal stories about Krueger and the 12 other victims during a memorial service at the Texas Army base.

Gov. Jim Doyle attended that service and he's also expected to attend Krueger's funeral on Saturday at Kiel High School.

Visitations will be held there Friday afternoon and evening, and Saturday from 10 until the 1 p.m. service.

Kiel Mayor Bob Werdeo said a two-star general from Fort Hood might be on hand as well.

Today, of course, is Veterans Day and Fort Hood plans a day of healing. Captain Russell Saeger of Racine County was the state's other soldier killed in the attack.

Four other Wisconsinites were among the 29 wounded.
