The proposal to create a string instrument program in the Hudson School District will get some support from local business if it gets the nod from the Board of Education at their April meeting.

The orchestra program was proposed by the district's music faculty with support from parents at last month's school board meeting and was discussed again at the March meeting last week.

School board members all voiced support for the program including President Annette Cook who also cautioned that even if the program was adopted by the board, whether it went ahead next year would depend on the availability of funding for it in light of district wide staffing and program needs.

Middle School band instruction Carl Meineke gave the board some good news with regard to funding the program. He said two financial businesses had pledged a total of $15,000 to help fund the purchase of the large instruments for the program if it went forward. The businesses wish to remain anonymous until after the program receives approval and funding for next year.

Director of Curriculum Chuck Sambs also told the board that at a recent meeting of building principals all expressed support for an orchestra program and committed to making room at their schools for instruction and practice.

The board will vote on the proposal at the April 12 meeting. For more information on the proposal contact the district curriculum office at 386-4904. Information on contacting school board members is available by contacting the district at 386-4901.
