The Hudson Boosters are always on the cutting edge of local sports activities, and Tuesday, May 12, they are sponsoring the Green Bay Packers Tailgate Tour.

Our hats off to the Boosters for making this event happen! It is rare that a professional athlete visits Hudson, and this event will bring four Packers to our community - a chance for local Packer fans to get up close and personal with the beloved Green and Gold.

A variety of activities is planned for the tour, which will include Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy, 2008 Pro Bowl selection safety Nick Collins, wide receiver Jordy Nelson and linebacker Brady Poppinga.

Although tickets are sold out to the official Tailgate party events, the public is still welcome to come to Lakefront Park and partake of many events, activities and hear the Packers speak from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at the band shell. Festivities begin in the park at 5 p.m. For the complete schedule of activities and what is available, see the story beginning on this week's front page.

Those who are fortunate enough to have tickets for the event will have a special night. Tickets for the Hudson event sold out the first day they were offered for sale on March 16 - that tells you something about the popularity of the Packers in Hudson and western Wisconsin.

Ticket holders will be allowed into a large tent where food and beverages are served (included in ticket price) starting at 5 p.m. and lasting until 8:30. After the Packers speak to the general audience (about 6 to 6:30 p.m.), they will go into the tent, and ticket holders will be permitted to get autographs from all four Packer representatives on a single item.

All of the proceeds will benefit the hosting organization, the Hudson Boosters.

Again, we congratulate the Boosters for bringing this event to Hudson and we also acknowledge the Packers for making the players and tour available to sponsoring organizations like the Boosters.

We know the Boosters will make good use of the proceeds from this event. There is probably no other volunteer organization in Hudson that touches the lives of as many kids - the Boosters deserve the thanks of the community, and we hope the Green Bay Packers Tailgate Tour is a roaring success.
