Our View: Christmas Tour of Homes kicks off season
In a world filled with serious news each day, Hudsonites will have an opportunity to focus on a happy event this weekend, the annual Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau's Christmas Tour of Homes and a related craft sale.
The annual event always attracts thousands of people to our community, but there's always room for more. This year's event features five private homes and the Octagon House.
The homes will be lavishly decorated for the holiday season. This year's homes include a wide variety of structures, each with different decorating styles. In addition, the tour includes the historic Octagon House. It is decked out in this year's theme: "A Very Victorian Value."
We salute all the Chamber employees and members, business owners, home owners and private citizens who have worked extremely hard in the past weeks and months to arrange for this weekend's show. Putting on this event is anything but easy - it involves a lot of planning, a lot of coordination and a lot of plain, old hard work. The final result is always fun and attracts a large number of people to our community. Events like the home tour help preserve our local charm and our sense of community.
On top of that, the home tour is a great event for all -- it offers two days of fun-filled activities.
The 2009 Christmas Tour of Homes is Saturday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Nov 22, from noon to 4 p.m. The art and craft sale is Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Best Western Hudson House Inn.
The event, of course, is a great fund-raiser for the Chamber, but it also serves as the holiday kick-off for retailers, restaurants and other Hudson service industries. The Tour of Homes gives the Christmas season a jump-start!
Tickets are $20 and are available at the Chamber office, Lavender Thymes, Heidi's Hallmark, Seasons on St. Croix Gallery and the Best Western/Hudson House Inn.
We hope to see everyone at this event - participants will not be disappointed!
