Parents sue school district over bullying
The parents of a 6-year-old boy are suing the Racine School District claiming that officials did nothing to stop their son from being bullied.
Charles and Stephanie Hardy of Caledonia filed their suit in Racine County Circuit Court against the district, the superintendent, an elementary principal, and the schools' insurance company. His parents claim their son was punched in the nose and abdomen, pushed into tables, slapped, and choked by his classmates almost from the first day of school last fall.
According to the lawsuit, the principal told Stephanie Hardy it was all her son's fault, and she should quote, "get over it." The couple's lawyer says the boy is attending another school this fall with no problems, and he's getting counseling.
Attorney Tim Knurr says the Hardys are not looking for a big payday. They filed a $50,000 damage claim in March, and it was dropped after the school district took no action.
The district is not commenting on the matter because of the lawsuit.
