Paul Gary, age 65, of Stone Lake, Wis. and formerly of Hudson, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2008, at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.
Paul Arthur Gary was born August 9, 1942, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Wilson and Alice (Runyon) Gary. He graduated from Johnson High School in St. Paul, Minn.
Paul joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He also earned the National Defense Service Medal, Veterans Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Combat Medal, EXP-M-14 Medal and MKM-M-16 Medal.
He was honorably discharged and shortly after moved to Hudson where he worked as a truck driver and delivery person for Raymond-Hyman Trucking, then Airborn Express.
Paul was joined in marriage to Shirley Ann Fritsche on May 15, 1971, in Hudson.
He retired in 1997 and moved to Stone Lake, Wis. in 1999 and would spend the winter months in Mission, Texas.
He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #2115 in Hudson.
Paul enjoyed traveling in his motor home, was an avid golfer and Packer fan, and loved cooking for others.
Paul is survived by his wife of 37 years, Shirley; one son, Paul (Rita) Gary of Hammond, Wis.; two grandchildren; three brothers, Robert (Billie) of Tuscon, Ariz., Daniel of Tuscon, Ariz., Leon (Butch) of Stone Lake, Wis.; two sisters, Alice Young of Tuscon, Ariz., Laura Pletcher of Bullhead City, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Bauer.
A visitation for Paul was held from 10-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17 at the Dahl Funeral Home in Spooner, Wis. Following the visitation, a committal with military honors was at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner. Military honors will be accorded by the Wisconsin Funeral Honors Program, Spooner Detachment.
