Phipps among grant recipients of valley foundation
St. Croix Valley Community Foundation recently awarded $23,500 to 12 local organizations, including $2,500 to The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson.
"All too often we overlook the impact nonprofit arts organizations have on people's lives and with our region overall," said Jill Shannon, foundation director of community partnerships. "The most recent Valley Arts Initiative grants were awarded to organizations that carefully considered the extended benefit their projects will have on their communities."
Funded projects included musical performances, theater productions and summer concerts.
"The St. Croix Valley is known for its special charm, its rich cultural offerings and as a home for a bounty of recognized artists," said Gretchen Stein, foundation board chair. "Just think how much our local arts organizations shape the unique sense of place this offers. As an artist, myself, I am proud of the role the foundation plays in supporting creativity and fine arts locally."
The Valley Arts Initiative is built on public funds and private contributions. In addition to an annual award from the Wisconsin Arts Board, the Valley Arts Initiative is supported by individuals who want to see a rich and varied art scene in the region or who want to support a number of organizations -- both established or new and emerging. The Hugh J. Andersen Foundation of Bayport has also been an important long-term contributor.
