Call for artists - Afton Art in the Park and Gift Gallery
Submissions from artists are currently being sought for the annual Afton Art in the Park and the Gift Gallery at The Phipps Center for the Arts. The 2009 Afton Art in the Park is the 30th anniversary of this art fair, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 27, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., in the Village Square in Afton.
The mission of the Gift Gallery is to sell high quality, unique and handmade works of art by regional artists. All work is done on consignment (65 percent to the artist). Artists will be selected through a jury process. For more information, contact The Phipps Center at 715.386.2305, ext. 103.
Jelani Eddington, the American Theatre Organ Society's 2001 Organist of the Year, will present a program of popular standards from the 1930s to '80s by composers such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Leroy Anderson and others, Saturday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults and $15 for all students. Discounts are available by purchasing season tickets.
Private violin lessons
Private violin lessons for students ages 7 through adult are offered throughout the year by Sarah Bertsch, (715) 381-5735.
Private voice lessons
Elizabeth Hawksford Schaefer offers private voice lessons for ages 12-adult. Adults and homeschooled teenagers are especially welcome to call for available daytime openings. For more information, call The Phipps center at (715) 386-2305, ext. 101.
Ballroom dance parties
Tom Larson will offer ballroom dance parties Saturday, Feb. 21 and March 21, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the dance studio. Larson will offer a ballroom dance lesson from 7:30 to 8:30. Dancers of all experience levels are welcome. Refreshments are provided. Admission is $10 per person.
Vinyasa Flow yoga classes continue Thursdays, 6:30-8 p.m. Beginning yoga is offered Tuesdays and Fridays, 9-10:30 a.m.
Classes are ongoing and may be taken at any time. Punch-cards may be purchased for $120 per 10 classes. Punch-cards are good for any of the three classes offered each week. Students only pay for the classes they attend. Students should wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.
Tai chi classes
Tai chi classes continue on Thursdays through Feb. 19 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The fee for eight sessions is $96.
Scene study class with Peter Moore
Peter Moore will offer a four-week scene study class on Mondays, Feb. 2-23, 7-9:30 p.m. Moore brings his 30 years' experience as a working actor and director to this class, which features scene work, monologues and aspects of working professionally. The class fee is $198.
The Western Wisconsin Photographic Club meets regularly at The Phipps. Photographers of all levels of ability and experience are invited to these meetings. For more information, contact Margaret Strehlo, (715) 386-5048.
Carolyn Streed of Dragonfly Spirit Studio will teach Quick Start to Success with Watercolors, a four-week class, on Wednesdays, Jan. 28-Feb. 18, 9 a.m.-noon. The class fee is $130.
Thoughtful Living series

--Creating Sacred Space - Feng Shui Demystified, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, with instructor Peg Leutele. $25 or $30.

--Victory Garden Revival, 7-8 p.m., Thursday, March 5, with instructor Sara Morrison; $10 to $15.
Inkjet art workshop
Amazing Inkjet Options in Art, a two-day workshop on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., with instructor Bonnie Cutts. Participants will work with unusual surfaces run through an inkjet printer and explore ideas for incorporating these printed images into collages and mixed media artwork. The class fee is $168.
Other classes for enrollment
A range of visual arts classes for teens and adults being offered January through April are now open for enrollment.

Healing Arts at Hudson Hospital
Currently on display are the works of Gloria Adrian, Teita Amberg, Chuck Avery, Robyn Stoller Awend, John Barnier, Bernel Bayliss, Barbara Bend, Susan McDonald, Chris Meyer, Jim Mulfinger, David Sebberson, Linda Statts and Teresa Zenk.
A series of exhibitions featuring work by Laura Andrews, Kimber Olson, Gregg Rochester, Katherine Sandnas and Tara Sweeney, will be on view through Feb. 15 in the Galleries. In addition to these exhibitions, a show of watercolor paintings by Hazel Stoick Stoeckeler, paired with poetry by Elizabeth Weber, will be on view in the Atrium Gallery, and "Using Photovoice to Hear the Voices of Mothers Raising Children in St. Croix County" will be presented in The Commons. Galleries hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m., as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.
