Musical trio - MacKenzie, Freymuth, Ostroushko

Singer/songwriter Ruth MacKenzie and special guests guitarist Dirk Freymuth and mandolinist/fiddler Peter Ostroushko will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25. Their soulful approach to music-making has cemented a friendship that has carried them onto a variety of stages: the Guthrie in "Kalevala: Dream of the Salmon Maiden," the Cedar Cultural Center, the Children's Theatre Company with "The Snow Queen" and the Fitzgerald Theater, to name a few. Tickets are $22 for adults and $15 for all students with a current I.D.

Private violin lessons

Private violin lessons for students ages 7-adult are offered throughout the year by Sarah Bertsch, (715) 381-5735.

Private voice lessons

Elizabeth Hawksford Schaefer offers private voice lessons for ages 12-adult. Adults and homeschooled teenagers are especially welcome to call for available daytime openings. For more information, call The Phipps center at (715) 386-2305, ext. 101.

Ballroom dance parties

Ballroom dance parties will be offered on Saturdays, Nov. 21 and Dec. 19, from 7-10 p.m. in the dance studio. Tom Larson will offer a ballroom and Latin dance lesson during the first hour. Dancers of all experience levels are welcome. Refreshments will be provided. Admission is $12 per person.

Creative cards

A one-day workshop Creative Cards for adults is Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a fee of $75, including most materials. Students are asked to bring watercolor paints, brushes, and one half-sheet (15" x 22") of #140 cold press watercolor paper.

Yoga classes

Vinyasa Flow yoga classes continue Thursdays, 6:30-8 p.m. Beginning yoga is offered Tuesdays and Fridays, 9-10:30 a.m.

Classes are ongoing and may be taken at any time. Punch-cards may be purchased for $120 per 10 classes. Punch-cards are good for any of the three classes offered each week. Students only pay for the classes they attend. Students should wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.

Photography club

The Western Wisconsin Photographic Club meets regularly at The Phipps. Photographers of all levels of ability and experience are invited to these meetings. For more information, contact Margaret Strehlo, (715) 386-5048.

Healing Arts at Hudson Hospital

Currently on display are the works of Judy Dannholz, Lindsy Halleckson, Margaret Holmes, Peter Landherr, Michael McGraw, David Mngodo, Joonja Lee Mornes, Odessa, Selene Plum, Teri Power, Jodi Reeb-Myers and Victoria Demos Stevens.

Gallery exhibit

A series of exhibitions featuring work by area artists Kristen Arden, Danelle Griner, Theresa Harsma, Pamela Valfer and Kasey Westra is on view through Oct. 25. "What We Need is Here: Getting Creative about Sustainability in the St. Croix Valley" in the Atrium Gallery through October 25. Galleries hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, noon to 4:30 p.m., as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.

The Gift Gallery

The Gift Gallery offers unique fine art and traditional crafts by noted area artists. Gift certificates are also available. Gift Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m.; as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.
