Photography workshops cover basics and more
Two digital photography classes will be offered by Curtis Dale at The Phipps Center for the Arts: Digital Photography, Saturday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Photoshop Elements, Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In Digital Photography, participants will learn the basics -- making the most of the camera's exposure options; using light sources; getting colors right; elements of design and composition; tips for getting better pictures; storage of digital photographs; file formats; and editing. Students should bring their equipment to class.
In Photoshop Elements, participants will learn how to use Adobe Photoshop Elements to edit and improve digital pictures. The techniques taught in this class can also be used for files created in graphic design and illustration software, and scanned images of negatives, prints and objects. Each participant will receive a CD that contains all the images used in class along with instructions so that they can review and practice their new skills. Students may bring a computer to class if they choose, but it is not required. Classroom demonstrations will use Photoshop Elements 7, but the skills and techniques learned also apply to earlier versions of Photoshop Elements.
Dale sells fine art photographs online and through galleries, handles photography assignments for magazines and creative agencies, and offers group instruction and private coaching in photography and using photography software including Adobe Photosohop and Adobe Lightroom. His customers include regional and national magazines, creative services groups, printers, construction and real estate firms, as well as various nonprofit organizations. A variety of his work may be seen at www.curtisdale.com.
