Popping up new business
For Wisconsin natives Clayton and Julie Duncan, moving to Hudson after nine years in New Jersey, while Clay worked for Target Corp. was like coming home.
The couple was thrilled to find out they could live in their home state while he continued to work in the cities for Target. That was in 2005.
In 2006, Clay left Target to go into business with a high school friend. It was the birth of St. Croix Valley Popcorn which officially incorporated in February of 2007 and moved to its current location in July of 2007. You may have seen their brightly colored van in the Pepper Fest Parade.
"I left Target looking to start a business, when a friend of mine suggested we could copy his business model in the Twin Cities metro area," said Clay. His friend had established a very lucrative business on the northeast side of Wisconsin called Valley Popcorn which serves the Fox Valley and surrounding areas.
The Duncans went into business, providing Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin with a unique service that includes popcorn and much, much, more.
Whether you want a popcorn machine and the service to go with it, just like a coffee service, or you want to set up a whole concession stand complete with slush machines and hot dog grills, Clay and Julie can help you out. Other available machines include cotton candy makers, pizza ovens and Cretor popcorn machines. Food and repair service is also provided.
"Nobody has the variety of popcorn we do," said Clay. "We also have all of the food that goes with the machines from the exceptional Square 1 pizzas, handcrafted in Siren, to being a major distributor in Minnesota of Dippin' Dots."
Some of their local clients include Mudds'N Sudds, Starr's Bar, Knoke Confections, Wells Fargo, Hudson Chrysler, RMF Auto and River Crest Elementary.
Their very first account was University Fairview Hospital and they have also been a vendor at Country Jam.
"We would like to have more business in the community we live in," said Julie. They couple recently had to add a second delivery vehicle as they continue to spread the word about their business throughout the valley and Twin Cities metro area.
So next time you need to have a concession stand, a party set up with a cotton candy or slushy machine or are considering providing your customers with popcorn, help is available locally. St. Croix Valley Popcorn provides service, sales and repair.
