Raidaires attend dance camp
The Hudson High School Raidaires Varsity and JV Dance Teams recently attended the Universal Dance Association's Summer Dance Camp, hosted at Macalester College in St. Paul. The teams learned a variety of new routines, as well as participating in dance technique classes and team building activities.
At the week's end, the dancers were evaluated on what they had learned over the course of the week. The Raidaires earned many awards, including the UDA Full Out award for above and beyond effort and spirit awards.
Several girls were also recognized for their outstanding effort and talent and were named UDA All-Americans. Varsity All Americans were Kim Workman, Carynn Arend and Nora Allen. JV All Americans were Sami Baierl, Amanda Heinecke, Lindsey Jackson, Jordan Timm and Maddie Letcher. Also attending the camp were coaches of both varsity and JV squads. They are Amanda Fletcher, Kim Hoff and Maddie Baird.
Also, some of the Hudson Raidaire alumni were working as instructors for UDA. Three dancers from Hudson have gone on to become instructors and travel to college campuses all across the upper Midwest, teaching young dance teams. The Hudson alumni are Katie Koenig (class of 2006), Monica DeLoy (2009) and Gretchen Hoehn (2009). Koenig graduated from St. Thomas University and is headed to medical school in Chicago. Hoehn and DeLoy are both students at UW-Stevens Point and members of the college's award-winning dance team.
