Raider girls' basketball team defeats Menomonie in Big Rivers opener
The Raider girls’ basketball team won its second game in a row after two losses to start the season with a 51-40 Big Rivers Conference road victory at Menomonie last Friday.
The Raiders jumped out to a 16-4 lead before going cold from the floor and trailed 21-20 at halftime. Hudson heated up and shot 48 percent from the field in the second half to slowly gain control.
Joe Behnke said the Raiders’ offensive execution was as good as he’s seen in his two years as Raider head coach.
“We had nice balance again tonight, and having 11 assists turn up on the stat sheet was a credit to that,” he said. “We shared the ball well.”
Seven different Raiders scored at least four points, led by Ashley Juza with 12. Jordan Huber added 11, including three three-pointers, and Kaylyn Jenkins scored eight while Anna Paquette and Katy Fox had six points apiece and Lexi Jonas and Maggie Koehler each contributed four.
After trailing by one at the half, Hudson built a 32-27 lead at the end of three on their way to the 11-point win.
“Anytime you can get a conference win on the road we'll take it,” Behnke said. “It's a nice way to go into the winter break with that two game winning streak.”
The Raiders, now 2-2 overall, 1-0 in BRC play, return to action this Saturday, Dec. 28, with a nonconference game at Stillwater at 3 p.m.
