Raider girls skate to 6-0 start
The Hudson High School girls' hockey team continued its winning ways with three victories in five days last week, as six different skaters scored goals.
The Raiders have opened the season with six victories and lead the Big Rivers Conference with a 3-0 record. The three conference wins are more than the Raiders registered all last season.
Hudson picked up a 3-1 BRC victory over Chippewa Falls last Tuesday before registering nonconference wins over Academy of Holy Angels (Richfield, Minn.), 3-2 in overtime Thursday, and Hayward, 3-0 Saturday.
Coach Dan Dietrich and his Raider squad will play Winona on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 5 p.m. at Hunt Arena at UW-River Falls. The team will play in the Schwan Cup High School Tournament Dec. 28-30.
Last Tuesday, the Raiders faced off against Chippewa Falls in a BRC showdown in Hudson. The Cardinals had recorded seven consecutive victories over the Raiders since Chippewa's girls' hockey program started in 2006-2007. The streak, however, ended in Gornick Arena that evening by virtue of a 3-1 Raider win.
Hudson's Alex Willi opened the scoring at 11:27 of the first period, assisted by Emily Stankevitz. Stankevitz put Hudson up 2-0 on a shorthanded goal at 5:00 of the second with an assist from Amy Hutchison.
At 3:21 of the third period, Chippewa's Allie Tanzer pulled the Cards to within one, 2-1. But four minutes later, Hudson's Bonnie Meyer sealed the win, assisted by Abby Singerhouse and Willi.
Hudson's Alise Riedel stopped 32 of the 33 shots she faced while Chippewa's Lauren Scobie had 15 saves.
Thursday at home against Holy Angels, the visiting Stars jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game on goals by Claire Coulter and Dakota Iverson.
