Raider girls win Northern Badger Indoor Track and Field Classic
The Raider girls' track and field team continued its hot start to the season by topping a field of 14 teams last Saturday to win the Large School Division at the Northern Badger Indoor Track and Field Classic at UW-Stout's Johnson Fieldhouse in Menomonie.
Hudson posted a team total of 81 points while River Falls was second with 60.5. Anoka, Minn., was third with 58.5 and Osceola was fourth with 46 while La Crosse Central took fifth with 44.5.
Hudson's depth was on full display as the Raiders posted three first place finishes but had multiple scorers in five different events.
Junior Sadie Kroll finished a full eight second ahead of her nearest competitor in the 1600 meter run, winning with a time of 5 minutes, 20.3 seconds, while sophomore Rachel Anderson took fourth in 5:31.73.
The Raiders' other first place finishes came from senior Taylor Steffen in the shot put, with a throw of 39 feet, 9.75 inches, and the 4 x 200 meter relay team with a time of 1:53.58.
Freshman Miranda Miller came in second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:30.42, while in the 3200, junior Erin Wetzstein took fourth in 11:51.84 and senior Patsy Castro placed seventh in 13:17.17.
Hudson took two of the top six places in the 55 meter dash finals, with junior Julia Douglas placing fifth in 7.78 seconds and sophomore Jordan Huber sixth in 7.79.
The Raiders received a boost in the pole vault as well, with junior McKenna Daulton clearing 9 feet to place fourth and senior Sarah Krier making 7-6 to finish seventh. Krier also made the finals in the 55 meter hurdles, where she finished seventh in 10.22 seconds.
Junior Katy Fox picked up points in three different events Saturday, finishing fifth in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 32-3, and eighth in the 200 meter dash in 27.91 seconds. Senior Erikka Haft was seventh in the 200 in 27.83.
Sophomore Mary Knutson was the Raiders' top finisher in the 400 meter dash with a 12th place time of 1:09.75, while junior Hannah Manley finished 13th in 1:11.06.
The Raiders will head to the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse for their next indoor meet this Saturday, March 30, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
