Raider gymnasts take first at home invitational
Gabby Hughes won an individual title on the balance beam and three Raiders finished in the top five in the event to help the Hudson gymnastics team outscore River Falls and claim first place at the seven-team Hudson Invitational last Saturday at Willow River Elementary School.
Hudson finished with a team score of 137.0 while River Falls was second with 136.25. Grantsburg/Luck was a distant third with 127.575.
The Raiders posted a team total of 34.7 on the balance beam, 1.075 points higher than River Falls, to give them the points they needed for the victory.
Hughes took first on the beam with a score of 9.3 while McKenna Daulton was third with 9.175 and Olivia Koehler placed fifth with 8.45. Maddie Nelson tied for 10th place with a 7.775.
Nelson led the Raiders on the uneven bars with a third place score of 8.75 while Koehler finished fourth with 8.525. Maddy Rohde contributed a tenth place score of 8.025 while Amira Tobasi was 11th with 7.725.
Koehler took fourth place in the floor exercise with a score of 8.9 and Daulton was sixth with 8.6 while Tobasi finished 11th with 8.4 and Hughes was 12th with 8.375.
Koehler and Daulton tied for fifth place in the vault with identical scores of 8.85 while Nelson and Maddie Wisse were part of a five-way tie for ninth place with scores of 8.65.
Koehler and Daulton both reached the awards stand in the al-around competition. Koehler finished third with a total score of 34.725 while Daulton was fourth with 34.175. Nelson finished seventh in the all-around with a total of 33.275.
The Raiders will next compete in a Big Rivers Conference triangular with Eau Claire and River Falls on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the River Falls Middle School.
