The Raider football team erased an early 7-0 deficit with 24 unanswered points on its way to defeating Green Bay Preble, 38-22, in a WIAA Level 2 playoff game Saturday afternoon at Goerke Field in Stevens Point.
Hudson advances to face Appleton North in a Level 3 game next Friday or Saturday at a site to be determined.
Green Bay Preble took the opening kickoff and marched for a touchdown to take an early 7-0 lead but after turning the ball over on its opening possession, the Raider put up 24 straight points, beginning with a 3-yard touchdown run by Hunter Frey with 3:16 remaining in the first quarter.
Landry Otten hit Jake Giordana for a 13-yard touchdown to give Hudson a 14-7 lead, and Kristian Bell kicked a 28-yard field goal on Hudson’s opening possession of the second half to extend the lead to 17-7.
A 40-yard touchdown pass from Otten to Giordana made it a 24-7 game with 5:47 remaining in the third quarter. Green Bay Preble cut the gap to 24-14 at the end of three, but Otten and Giordana hooked up for their third touchdown, a 35-yard strike on the first play of the fourth quarter to put Hudson up 31-14.
Green Bay Preble missed a 22-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter and the Raiders took over and marched 80-yards to extend their lead to 38-14 on a 27-yard touchdown run by Braden Marvin with 5:08 to play.
Green Bay Preble scored on a 53-yard hook-and-lateral on its first play from scrimmage following Marvin’s touchdown but the Raiders used a heavy dose of Wade Malecha and Marvin on the ground to make sure Green Bay Preble never got the ball again.
