Raider softball tops NR, splits with Marshfield
The Raider softball team took a break from Big Rivers Conference action last week by winning two of three nonconference games to improve to 10-5 overall.
Playing three games in two days, the Raiders beat New Richmond, 8-2, Friday before splitting a doubleheader Saturday with Marshfield, winning the first game 13-5 before losing the nightcap, 6-5.
The Raiders wrapped up the regular season with a doubleheader at Eau Claire Memorial Tuesday. The WIAA regional playoffs are set to begin Tuesday, May 26, with sites and opponents to be announced later this week.
Friday at New Richmond, Abby Singerhouse allowed just four hits and one earned run while striking out six and helped herself at the plate with three hits, including a double, and three RBI in an 8-2 victory.
Devan DuCharme added three hits, including a double, three runs scored and an RBI and Maddie Karras had two hits, a run batted in and a stolen base while Meghan Hanson had a hit and two RBI and Chelsea Walczak doubled in a run.
The Raiders scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings before adding three in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader against Marshfield, the Raiders scored eight runs in the sixth inning on their way to 13-5 win.
Ari Schultz had three hits and three RBI while Singerhouse and Walczak each had two hits and two RBI. Erin Anderson added two hits and a run batted in and Sydney Berger drove in a pair of runs with a single.
Singerhouse earned the win, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits while striking out ten and walking four.
Marshfield scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh of the nightcap to escape with a 6-5 win.
Karras had three hits and a run batted in while Hanson had a hit and RBI. Missy Tennant, Shelby Berger and Sydney Berger also drove in a run apiece.
Hanson took the loss on the mound, allowing five earned runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking four.
