Wade Malecha ran for three touchdowns, Braden Marvin scored one and Alex Herink caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Landry Otten to lift the Hudson Raiders to a 34-14 victory over the Eau Claire Memorial Old Abes in a WIAA Level 1 playoff game Friday night, Oct. 25, at  Newton Field.

Herink’s touchdown came after Nick Bloomberg picked off a pass on the Old Abes’ first possession of the game and capped a 67-yard drive to give the Raiders a 6-0 first quarter lead.

Malecha scored on touchdown runs of 4 and 1 yards to make it a 20-0 game at halftime.

Memorial took the second half kickoff and marched 70 yards to cut the gap to 20-7, but Hudson came right back to score on a 20-yard run by Malecha. Marvin scored on a 7-yard run early in the fourth quarter before Memorial scored a late touchdown to make the final 34-14.

Hudson will face Green Bay Preble, 13-12 winners over Wausau West, in a Level 2 playoff game next Friday or Saturday at a site to be determined. Check the Star-Observer print edition for more.
