The Raider football team got off to another fast start on its way to clinching its fifth playoff appearance in the last six years in a 48-20 victory over Eau Claire Memorial at Carson Park in Eau Claire last Friday night.

Dan Loughney and Blake Amborn both rushed for over 100 yards and combined for six of the Raiders' seven touchdowns as Hudson remained undefeated and tied with Menomonie for first place in the big Rivers Conference.

One week after scoring four first quarter touchdowns in a 49-14 win over Eau Claire north, the Raiders jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead Friday night and led 34-14 at halftime on their way to their fifth straight victory.

"It was great to get out to another fast start," head coach Adam Kowles said. "Being behind early really puts pressure on the other team. We really did a nice job controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides."

Loughney rushed for 162 yards and four touchdowns and Amborn ran for 121 yards and a touchdown and caught a 37-yard scoring pass from Mike Hommes to give the Raiders an early 7-0 lead.

Loughney scored from nine yards out four minutes later and Austin Koski ran over from the two yard-line to stake the Raiders to a 21-0 first quarter lead.

Memorial got on the board midway through the second quarter but it took Hudson just 15 seconds to respond with a Loughney 67-yard TD run. After another Memorial touchdown cut the lead to 28-14, Amborn broke loose for a 67-yard touchdown run to make it a 34-14 game at halftime.

Loughney added scoring runs of 4 and 3 yards in the third quarter to widen the gap to 48-14 before Memorial scored the only touchdown of the fourth quarter to make the final 48-20.

"Offensively, we didn't take advantage of an early turnover in their end, which is crucial, but we did later on by getting points off of a couple of turnovers," Kowles said. "Defensively we caused some big turnovers which was a key to the game. They had a few big pass plays down the field, but we made some adjustments and took that away as the game went on. Another solid team win."

Hudson finished with 455 yards of total offense, 395 coming on the ground. The Raiders also got a third quarter interception from Miles Lewis and forced three old Abe fumbles.

Stuart Burns and Dan Kelly made six tackles each on defense while Jake Shaw finished with five tackles and a sack.

Hudson, now 5-0 overall, 4-0 in the BRC, travels to Superior (3-2, 2-2) this Friday night, Sept. 28, before returning home to host River Falls (4-1, 3-1), Friday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at Newton field.
