Raiders shine at hockey Senior Tourney
Four Raider seniors vied for a spot on Team Wisconsin by playing for the Section 1 team at the Wisconsin Senior Class Tournament March 22-24 in Waupun.
Forwards Emerson Korum and August Nuutinen, defenseman Daniel Tripicchio, and goaltender Josh Mattis all played in the tournament under Raider coach Brooks Lockwood.
The tournament showcases the top senior talent in the state of Wisconsin and is the first step towards picking players to play for Team Wisconsin in the Minnesota CCM National Invitational Tournament April 26-28 in Plymouth, Minn.
The Section 1 team finished third at the 8-team tourney with a record of 2-1.
Nuutinen had two assists in the tourney opener, a 7-3, victory over Section 5, and a goal and an assist in a 6-4 loss to Section 7 in the second round while Mattis finished with 38 saves in the loss.
In the final game of the tournament against Section 6, Tripicchio scored to tie the score, 2-2, and Korum had two assists, including one on the game-winning goal by River Falls' Casey Jerry, in a 4-2 victory. Mattis made 13 saves while splitting time with Jordan Langness of Somerset.
Lockwood will serve as an assistant coach for Team Wisconsin at the National Invitational Tournament April 26-28. Other teams at the tournament will include Minnesota, North Dakota, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Minnesota U-18.
