Raiders soccer team edged by Eau Claire North; host Chippewa Falls Thursday in regionals
Despite dominating play most of the night, and outshooting Eau Claire North, 20-6, the Raider girls' soccer team came out on the short end of a 1-0 decision to the Huskies last Tuesday night at the middle school field.
Last Thursday's scheduled game at Chippewa Falls was cancelled due to heavy rain and will not be made up, leaving the Raiders with a record of 6-5-1 heading into the postseason.
Hudson drew the No. 7 seed in the WIAA regional bracket and will host No. 10 Chippewa Falls Thursday, May 31, at 7 p.m. The winner will play either second-seeded D.C. Everest or No. 15 Antigo Saturday, June 2, at the home of the higher seed.
Last Tuesday, on Parents Night at the Raiders' final regular season home game, Eau Claire North scored the only goal of the game in the seventh minute to hand the Raiders a 1-0 setback.
"It was a frustrating game I guess you could say," Raider coach Allie Knutson said. "We definitely created some opportunities for ourselves, but could not finish any of them."
The loss left the Raiders in fourth place in the seven-team Big Rivers Conference standings. Knutson said she's optimistic the Raiders will be able to capitalize on their opportunities in the upcoming playoffs.
"I think our team is playing well together, but we need to start converting our opportunities," she said.
