Raiders win six in a row, move into second in BRC baseball standings
The Raider baseball team stretched its Big Rivers Conference winning streak to six games to take firm control of second place in the conference standings with a 16-4 victory over Chippewa Falls last Tuesday at an 8-3 win Friday at River Falls.
Eau Claire North beat River Falls 3-2 last Tuesday to clinch the BRC title while the two Raider victories leave them at 7-2 in conference play, two games ahead of River Falls.
After hosting Eau Claire North this past Tuesday after press time, the Raiders will wrap up the regular season with a nonconference game at home against Prescott Thursday, May 29, at 4:30 p.m. They open WIAA regional play Tuesday, June 3, at home against Superior at 4:30 p.m.
Last Friday at River Falls the Raiders snapped a 2-2 tie with four runs in the top of the fifth and tacked on two more in the seventh for an 8-3 victory.
Bryce DuCharme had an RBI double and scored on a double by Hunter Frey to stake Hudson to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but River Falls answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the score.
Hudson sent nine batters to the plate in the top of the fifth on its way to scoring four times. A bases-loaded walk to Miles Lewis forced in one run and Frey had an RBI sac fly while DuCharme scored on the back end of a double steal before Barnard doubled in Lewis.
A single by DuCharme, a double by Lewis and a two-run single by Jack Koski resulted in Hudson’s final two runs in the seventh.
Jake Giordana, DuCharme and Lewis all had two hits, including a double apiece, while Frey and Barnard also doubled in the win.
Cody Hepfler worked the first five innings on the mound to earn the win, allowing two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Sam Glade pitched the final two innings, allowing one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
Last Tuesday at Chippewa Falls, the Raiders scored 16 runs in just four offensive innings in a 16-4 victory over the Cardinals. Barnard was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI and DuCharme doubled twice while Giordana had a pair of hits, including a triple.
Glade earned the win on the mound, allowing four earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
