Reader's Digest says Wisconsin has the nation's second-best roads

Wisconsin News

Wisconsin has the second best roads in the nation.

That's according to Reader's Digest, which says only Kansas has better-quality highways.

The magazine published its rankings in a report called the "Best, Worst, and Deadliest Roads in America."

It was based federal data for safety, traffic congestion, and the overall condition of roads and bridges.

In a separate ranking, Wisconsin had the 37th deadliest roads among the 50 states. That was based on traffic deaths.

Despite all the concerns of drunk driving, the report did not list Wisconsin among the 10 deadliest states for OWI. The Badger State was not among the 10 deadliest for speeding, either.

The report said Montana has the nation's third-best roads, but they're also the deadliest. That's because of drivers who drink, drive recklessly and do not wear seatbelts.

The Reason Foundation, a public policy think tank, helped Reader's Digest come up with its numbers.
