Baseball lessons set Feb. 18, 25
An open gym is scheduled Thursdays, Feb. 18 and 25 at the Willow River Elementary gym from 7-9 p.m. for boys interested in playing Booster competitive 10-year-old baseball. The sessions cover throwing, fielding and hitting. The free sessions will help youths prepare for tryouts in early March. For more information, call Kevin Klementz at (715) 381-5921.
Legion baseball practice
Hudson American Legion Baseball will be sponsoring baseball training sessions at the spacious Knowles Center in River Falls for six Sundays during February and March. Participants will be able to throw "long toss," field ground balls, and hit. There also will be a ball game at the end of each session. Soccer signup set
The Hudson Soccer Association is accepting registrations for the summer 2010 Recreational League. Fifth grade team is third
The boys fifth grade Hudson Blue basketball team won third place at a tournament in Pine City, Minn. Saturday. The team defeated teams from Hinckley-Finlayson, Pine City and White Bear Lake, Minn., while losing to Poplar. The fifth graders have a season record of 18-2.
Try out for volleyball
Hudson Volleyball Association will hold open tryouts for senior high (grades 10-12) boys on Feb. 24 at the River Crest Elementary gym from 7-9 p.m. A brief informational meeting for students and parents will be held at 6 p.m. Practice will begin in early March; games are played on Saturdays in April. Cost for the season is $150 which includes uniform, USAV registration and tournament fees. River Crest Elementary is located at 535 County F. Register for tryouts at www.signuptoplay.com.
Summer baseball camp held
Hudson American Legion Baseball is sponsoring a summer morning baseball camp for 7- and 8-year-old boys. The 12 game schedule will begin after school is out and will continue into July. For more information, go to www.hudsonlegionbaseball.org.
Heated cabins at Afton park
Afton, Minn., State Park has opened two new camper cabins that are heated and wired with electricity. They are available year-round at a cost of $50 per night, smoke-free, and sleep up to six people. Visitors staying at camper cabins need to bring their own sleeping bags or other bedding. Cooking can be done outside at the fire ring, which has a grill, or in the cabins with electricity. The camper cabins do not have indoor plumbing, but drinking water and vault toilets are open year-round.
