RF resident, teacher loses battle with cancer
Kimberly Warneke died Sunday at River Falls Area Hospital. Funeral notices are pending. Warneke, 46, lives near Rocky Branch Elementary School and was a teacher in Hudson. She was featured in the Journal in November after receiving a Courage Award from the American Cancer Society.
Warneke was dealing with a return of cancer that spread the second time. The reoccurrence was discovered last March just before she was to participate in the annual Relay for Life, an all-night event held at the high school that raises money to fight cancer.
Warneke knew this second bout of cancer would be the hardest test of her life. Her motto that she posted at the end of each of her online journal entries read: "Keep hope in your heart."
