Both starting pitchers were on their games from the beginning. Rats' starter Paul Johnson was magnificent, giving up just three hits and one-earned run while striking out 13 batters in eight innings of work. Plum City pitcher Tony Garner was equally stellar, striking out 16 Rats in 10 innings on the mound.

Hudson trailed 1-0 in the sixth, before Johnson helped his own cause with a two-out single to left, scoring Brent Blegen to tie the game.

The scoring ceased from that point until the eleventh, when Brian Sparstad scored the eventual winning run with two outs on three consecutive walks.

Sparstad picked up the victory out of the bullpen, pitching three scoreless innings and striking out four in relief.

The win was the third-straight league victory for the Rats, who improved to 5-5 in the St. Croix Valley Baseball League, 9-7 overall. They will play a pair of games this weekend, traveling to Hager City to take on the Skeeters on Saturday, July 14 before welcoming the Elmwood Expos into Hudson Sunday, July 15.
