Roberts stars at Rochester, boys track team finishes well
The distance runners again got it done when the Raider boys track team had a good finish at the Rochester Mayo meet, which features scores of teams.
The embodiment of that type of performance was John Roberts, who was named MVP for running events by winning the 1600 and the 3200 meters, in times of 4:42.88 and 9:48.84, respectively.
Adam Zais was second in 9:50.14 and third in 4:44.36. Neal Kivi was firth in the 3200 with a 10:13.91.
Luke Wusterbarth won the 1648 Steeple Chase with a 5:39.03, and Jacob Pittman placed ninth with a 6:16.00. The four-by-200 relay team was victorious with a 1:36.91, and Julian McNally captured the pole vault with a 12-foot effort, followed by Mitch Patrick at 11.5 feet in third, and Ben Peters at 10 feet in seventh.
These were other finishers in the top 10: The four-by-100 relay team was fourth in 47.45, Nicholas Duchow was fifth in the 400 dash with 53.63, Joshua Robers and Brody Swenson tied for sixth in the high jump with 5.5 feet, Nathan Smits placed sixth in the 300 hurdles with 44.83, the four-by-800 relay was eighth with 9:08.90, Mark Tully was ninth in the 300 hurdles with 45.38, Michael Tuma placed ninth in the discus with 117.5 feet and Sean O'Keefe tenth with 114.16 feet, and Jenish Bhakta tenth in the long jump with 18.5 feet.
There is a junior varsity home meet set for Thursday, May 8, and next Tuesday, May 13, is the Big Rivers Conference meet at Eau Claire North.
