Ron R. Dietz, 63, died at his home in Hudson, on Saturday, June 14, 2008. He and his wife moved to Hudson in 2006 after spending 25 years in his hometown of Bismarck, N.D.
Ron was born in Bismarck on Dec. 19, 1944, to Roy and Emma Dietz. He was a graduate of Bismarck State College, the University of North Dakota, and he completed the Master's Program in Counseling and Guidance at North Dakota State University.
Ron's career covered a span of 23 years, beginning with his position as an employment counselor at Job Service North Dakota, and ending with his position as Grants and Contracts Officer with the North Dakota Public Service Commission. He held a variety of positions in both state and federal government, which included being Director of the North Dakota Governor's Employment and Training Forum. As a result of his many civic and social involvements, Ron was listed in Who's Who in North Dakota, 1984.
Ron was a proud Vietnam veteran, having served in the United States Army from 1967-1969. He was an avid sportsman and a lifelong Republican.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sharon; and a brother, Jim. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Pat (nee Bettschen); his daughter Terri (Terry) Marquardt of Hudson, and his stepdaughter Christine (Gary) Graf of Topeka, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; three brothers: Gary (Margo), Tom (Nancy), and Jeff (Peggy); five sisters: Diana (Frank) Lester, Yvonne (Roger) Peters, Deb (Gary) Bentley, Suzi Herr, Brenda (Robert) Schmidt; a former sister-in-law Deb Larson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2008, at First United Methodist Church, 924 North Eleventh Street, Bismarck, N.D., with Pastor Ron Rich of Missouri officiating. Interment will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, N.D., with full military honors. A prayer service was held at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 16, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, with Pastor Larry Szyman officiating. There was a visitation on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Eastgate Funeral Home, 2302 East Divide Avenue, Bismarck, from 5-8 p.m., and again at First United Methodist Church one hour prior to the funeral service.
