Boys Scouts and leaders from BSA Troop 168 (sponsored by Hudson Rod & Gun Club) in North Hudson visited Afton State Park Sunday, Oct. 13, while completing a 20-mile hike as part of the Hiking Merit Badge.

This is one of several Eagle required merit badges that Scouts need to complete for rank advancement toward becoming an Eagle Scout. The Hiking Merit Badge requires five 10 mile hikes (one night hike) and a 20-mile hike in addition to learning about hiking equipment and preparation, prevention injuries and illnesses that can occur and treatment of those injuries or illnesses if necessary.
