YMCA Fundraising event partners with community organizations

On Saturday June 23, the seventh annual Croixathlon will draw hundreds of participants, spectators and volunteers to YMCA Camp St. Croix. The Croixathlon is a sprint distance triathlon held as a fundraiser to support the mission of the 600 acre camp and retreat center on the bluffs of the St. Croix River. The race is a combined one-third mile swim in the St. Croix River, a 15-mile bike ride on rolling county roads, and a three-mile trail run, and it can be completed individually or by a relay team.

The race is becoming notorious for its signature element -- a rigorous 400-yard steeply inclined trek from beach-to-bluff-top. It is also well-loved for its beautiful venue, supportive atmosphere, complimentary child care, and homespun charm. Croixathlon was honored to be voted one of the "Top 5 Races of the Year" by Minnesota Triathlon News in 2010 and 2011.

Last year, the race filled to near capacity and race organizers were able to generate nearly $18,000 to benefit YMCA Camp St. Croix. The day offered athletes of all abilities a great racing experience. First time triathletes claim that the Croixathlon is a great way to get into the sport; veterans say the race offers unique challenges that make the race an annual event for them. Over 60 Hudson athletes participated making it the second most represented city in the race, which drew competitors from across the USA.

This year Croixathlon is hoping to have an even bigger local turnout. Wild River Tri Club, a local organization devoted to inspiring St. Croix Valley residents to participate in the multi-sport community, is partnering with race organizers position the event to continue to grow in the future. The Club's race course planning expertise and advice will offer a new dimension.
