Sheriff says bullets fired at semi appear to have come from 10 mm pistol
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s office is investigating an unusual drive-by shooting on Interstate 94 near Baldwin just after midnight Saturday, Aug. 2.
According to St. Croix County Sheriff John Shilts, the driver of the tractor-trailer was passing a vehicle on eastbound I-94. As the truck driver went by he heard what sounded like rapid knocking on the exterior of the cab and the sleeper of his truck.
He had driven on about 10 miles when he was signaled to pull over by another driver who noticed fuel leaking from the semi. That is when the driver saw that his truck appeared to have been hit by gunfire at least nine times.
Investigators recovered slugs and shell casings at the scene and Shilts said that they appear to have come from a 10mm pistol.
The driver, who was alone in his cab, described the car he passed as an older model that was either red or maroon.
