The St. Croix County Sheriff's Department held its fifth annual recognition ceremony March 14 and acknowledged the efforts of civilians and officers for outstanding performance over the past year.

Deputy Dana Juaire was named corrections officer of the year. Juaire, who started her career in 2002, is the senior jail deputy. Her letter of commendation noted, "Deputy Juaire goes above and beyond to make sure the job gets done properly and inmates and co-workers are treated fairly."

Other candidates for corrections officer of the year included deputies Scott Blaisdell and Jessica Zupfer.

Jodie Robey was awarded the Citizen Life Saving Award for aiding the department with her knowledge of CPR when her husband, Jeff, collapsed in a ditch Nov. 18 near the intersection of County Roads T and M. Jodie began CPR on her husband and continued to assist deputies and EMS personnel. Jeff was transported to United Hospital and made a full recovery.

Sgt. Jeff Kennett and Deputy Tom Williams each received a Life Saving Award in connection with the same incident.

Sgt. Jason Sykora was named Field Services Officer of the Year. He has been a K-9 handler for the past five years and won local and national K-9 competitions.

Other candidates from the field services division included Investigators Brandie Hart, Jim Mikla and James Haefner.

Certificates of Commendation were awarded to: Lt. Gabe Hutton, sergeants Mitch Thomason, Jeff Kennett, Mike Dishno; deputies Nick Krueger, Tyler L'Allier, Marc Sommers, Josh Stenseth and Doug Halberg.

Meritorious Conduct Awards were presented to deputies Sykora, L'Allier, Justin Johnson, Deshaun Summerset, John Shilts Jr. and troopers Rob Unruh and Trent Betley.
