Ski show coming to Booster Days
The 2009 Hudson Booster Days will feature a new family-friendly act.
The Twin Cities River Rats will put on a free water ski show on the St. Croix River off Lakefront Park at 2 p.m. on the Fourth of July.
The River Rats are a team of volunteer performers who put on a show on the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis every Thursday evening from early June through the end of August. They also perform some special shows around the region each summer.
Their hour-long show combines various water skiing acts with skits and music, according to the team's Web site, www.tcriverrats.com.
The acts include barefoot skiing, pyramids, ski jumping, and ballet and swivel skiing.
The ski jumping is consistently a crowd favorite, the Web site says.
"Hitting the ramp at speeds from 30 to over 60 mph, these daring athletes perform aerial feats like 360-degree spins, distance jumps, front flips and back-gainers."
This year's Booster Days will run from Wednesday evening, July 1, through Sunday, July 5.
Other highlights will include a fireworks display at dusk Friday, July 3, and the Fourth of July parade at 11 a.m.
Also taking place on the Fourth will be a kids' tractor pull from 2 to 4 p.m. and a hot dog-eating contest at 4 p.m.
There will be mechanical bull riding Thursday evening.
The musical lineup is Mediocritones and Boogie Wonderland on Thursday; The Homegrown Unknowns, Playback and Uncle Chunk on Friday; and the Teddy Bear Band, Resistors, Rhino and Tim Mahoney on Saturday.
A kids fishing contest will take place in Lakefront Park from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Carnival rides will be available throughout the celebration.
