Snowmobile crash death toll rises to 12
The death toll from Wisconsin snowmobile crashes this winter has risen to 12.
The latest fatal accident was reported in Price County on Saturday afternoon.
Authorities said a 65-year-old Phillips man died in the town of Worcester. His name and other details of the crash were not immediately released.
The Price County coroner and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources are still investigating. Three snowmobilers were killed Saturday morning in Vilas County, after a pair of machines collided.
Those victims were Jennifer and Nathan Kender, both 26, of Racine, and Scott Sumoski, 39, of South Elgin, Ill. That crash also remains under investigation.
The Department of Natural Resources has recorded three more snowmobile deaths than this time a year ago, when there were nine.
Last year's 12th fatality didn't take place until Jan. 25.
The state went on to have 25 snowmobile deaths last winter, one fewer than the year before, despite the record amount of snow in many places.
The record is 39 deaths, set nine seasons ago.
