Softball falls in regional final

The Raider softball team defeated River Falls, 5-2, in a WIAA regional semifinal last Tuesday before its season came to an end with a 4-0 loss in the regional final Thursday at Chippewa Falls.

The No. 3 seeded Raiders scored two runs in the first inning and never trailed against No. 6 River Falls, but couldn't produce a run in the loss to No. 2 Chippewa Falls.

Abby Singerhouse earned the win on the mound against the Wildcats, striking out 11 and walking two while allowing seven hits. Both River Falls' runs were unearned.

Singerhouse also helped herself at the plate with two hits and two runs scored while Chelsea Walczak had three hits, one RBI and one run scored.

Erin Anderson added a hit and three RBI and Maddie Karras had a hit, RBI and run scored. Devan DuCharme doubled and scored a run while Meghan Hanson and Sydney Berger also had hits in the win.

Thursday at Chippewa Falls, Singerhouse and Karras each had two hits but the Cardinals kept the Raiders off the scoreboard in a 4-0 decision. Walczak and Berger also singled in the game to account for the only other Raider hits.

Singerhouse allowed just five hits but the Raiders committed five errors which lead to three unearned runs. Singerhouse also struck out three and walked just one.

The Raiders finished the season with a record of 13-6.
