Softball wraps up busy week
It was a busy week for the Raider softball team, which played seven games in five days and came out victorious in three.
The wins included an 8-7 victory over Eau Claire North in the first game of a doubleheader last Tuesday, and two wins at the Robbinsdale Tournament on Saturday. Hudson defeated De La Salle 6-4 and New Richmond 1-0 while losing to Burnsville 11-2.
The other setbacks came Thursday against Chippewa Falls when the Cardinals swept the Raiders 2-0 and 15-0.
The week began on a high note as the Raiders took the first game of a doubleheader at Eau Claire North, 8-7, in eight innings.
Allie Kocik scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth when she reached on an error, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a base hit by Maddie Karras. Abby Singerhouse retired the Huskies in order in the bottom of the inning to preserve the win.
Singerhouse helped herself at the plate with two hits and three runs batted in while Chelsea Walczak contributed two hits, and RBI and two runs scored. Meghan Hanson, Erin Anderson and Sydney Berger all had a hit, RBI and run scored.
Hudson managed just two hits in the nightcap, an 8-0 loss to the Huskies. Berger had two hits, including a double, while Karras singled.
Thursday against Chippewa Falls, the Raiders had just three hits in each game of the doubleheader loss.
Singerhouse singled twice and Ari Schultz had a base hit in a 2-0 loss in the opener, while Anderson, Schultz and Berger accounted for the lone hits in the 15-0 nightcap loss.
Hudson bounced back with a 6-4 win over De La Salle Saturday as Devan Ducharme had three hits and scored twice and Karras, Walczak, Hanson, Anderson, Schultz and Berger each drove in a run.
After being held to one hit--a single by Singerhouse--in a 11-2 loss to Burnsville, Singerhouse turned the tide by twirling a one-hitter in a 1-0 win over New Richmond.
The Raiders scored the only run of the game in the fifth when Hanson led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Schultz and scored on a double by Berger.
Singerhouse struck out six and walked two while allowing just one hit to earn the win.
The Raiders will travel to New Richmond Friday, May 15 and host Marshfield Saturday, May 16 at 11 a.m. at Grandview Park.
