Somerset man dies in snowmobile mishap

A Somerset man is dead after snowmobiling on a partially frozen Flambeau River in Rusk County and breaking through the ice.

On Monday, Dec. 26, Christopher Stanger, 23, Somerset, attempted to drive over open water on the river around 2:15 p.m. when his machine went under. The incident occurred south of Ladysmith.

According to emergency crews, family members pulled Stanger out and emergency personnel began CPR but he died at Rusk County Memorial Hospital.
