The office is located on the north end of River Falls' Whitetail Ridge Business Park, six miles south of I-94.

The Star-Observer will retain a small office for reporter interviews, news and sales meetings in the Hudson Professional Building - the former St. Croix County Courthouse and Hudson Library-- 901 Fourth St.

The Star-Observer had been leasing about 2,000 sq. ft. at the 226 Locust St. location since it sold the building to Jon Picard, Lakeland, Minn., in late 2004.

Last month, it was decided to discontinue the rental arrangement and bring together Hudson and River Falls' news staff members at the River Falls location, which is owned by the newspaper's parent firm, Forum Communications Co.

The new arrangement will save money, but also better positions both the Star-Observer and Journal news staffs to meet expectations of today's print and web readers to get news shortly after it happens, said publisher Steve Dzubay.

"The printed Star-Observer remains a weekly staple to many people in and around Hudson. Last week, we delivered about 6,000 newspapers through newsstands and mailed subscribers.

"But we update our Web site daily and want to do an even better job of delivering breaking news as it unfolds. In August, the Star-Observer site recorded 51,417 unique visitors and 316,738 page views. People are using both products," he said.

Laptop computers and the ability for phone calls to follow reporters anywhere make a brick-and-mortar location less important today.

"We realize some people have become accustomed to stopping in to buy that hot-off-the-press newspaper, visit with news staff or drop off news items, but we're confident they'll feel welcome at our new facility and we'll provide a convenient drop off site at the Fourth Street office too."
