State agent says he didn't steal drug money
A state drug agent has pleaded innocent to stealing drug money in an F-B-I sting. Johnny Santiago, a former Milwaukee police officer, became a state Justice Department agent about five years ago and is scheduled to go on trial June 28th in federal court in Milwaukee.
He was charged in March with the theft of government property after the FBI said Santiago had taken an undetermined amount of money seized in drug raids.
Once officials were tipped off to it, they planted $1,100 in a vacant store front that Santiago was supposed to search. The FBI said he pocketed the cash. Santiago is a former Milwaukee police officer who became a drug agent with the state Justice Department about five years ago.
