Photos and video
Images are preferred in the .jpg format and high resolution. Videos should be .mp4 or .mov format. Contact us for instructions on submitting video or several photos, as file sizes may prevent them from being sent through email.

Media submitted for consideration must be an original, non-published work that does not infringe on any privacy, intellectual property or other rights of any third parties, and that the entrant either owns or has rights to convey any and all right and title in the submission.

A person submitting photos or video grants the Hudson Star-Observer non-exclusive, royalty-free copyright license to publish them online or in print and to republish them at any time in the future in any Hudson Star-Observer, RiverTown Multimedia or Forum Communications Co. media.

Submissions must be an accurate representation of the scene, and not digitally altered in any way.

Please tell us who made the content, where and when it was taken and identify people who might be included in it. Feel free to add any other comments you think might be helpful.


Letters to the editor
The Hudson Star-Observer welcomes readers’ letter and viewpoint submissions.

If you wish to submit a letter, please limit it to 350 words or less. At the editor’s discretion, the Star- Observer may consider publishing longer submissions as viewpoints, which generally are limited to 650 words.

Letter and viewpoint submissions must be signed and contain your name, address and email or phone number for verification purposes.

Reader submissions must be received no later than noon on Monday to be considered for publication in the following week’s paper. For details, call 715-386-9333.


Wedding and engagement announcements are published free of charge.

Allow ample time before the event, as space constraints may delay publication. No announcements will be accepted without the name, phone number and email address of the person submitting the announcement.

One photo can be submitted per announcement.

News releases
We want to publish your business news — both the major stories and routine developments.

Major stories would include the announcement of a retailer or industry locating in the area as well as expansion or closing of a business or industry. Routine business news includes announcement of new personnel, completion of career-enhancing seminars, promotions, Chamber of Commerce visits and donations to nonprofits.

Decisions on how the story will be handled will be based on human interest, prominence, proximity, impact and timeliness as well as other factors. When possible, include references which help explain your operation and the factors affecting business and industry in the community.

News releases submitted with a time-sensitive release date will be handled in strict confidence.
