Suspect caught after chase
River Falls Wisconsin 2815 Prairie Drive / P.O. Box 25 54022

What began as a traffic stop in downtown Hudson ended in the arrest of a wanted felon early Friday morning.

Erik Becerra was arrested following a chase that led from Second and Vine streets in Hudson to I-494 near Lake Drive in Woodbury, Minn. According to an outstanding California warrant, Becerra was wanted in connection with a robbery there and was considered armed and dangerous.

Hudson police officer Nick Krueger saw Becerra at Second and Vine streets make an illegal U-turn and noticed that the muffler on the car was dragging. He attempted to stop him but Becerra refused to pull over, and a chase began through Hudson.

Becerra, accompanied by a passenger, proceeded south on Second Street onto westbound I-94 traveling between 65 and 75 miles per hour. Becerra pulled in at the truck scale where his passenger, Christian Hernandez Vanez, 19, jumped from the car and took off on foot. Officers later took him into custody.

Becerra then continued west on I-94, avoiding stop sticks Minnesota officers had placed across the freeway near I-494. He then proceeded south on I-494 where he avoided more stop sticks near the Tamarack Road exit. He managed to avoid more stop sticks near Lake Drive but lost control of his vehicle and was taken into custody.

In addition to the warrant charges, Becerra faces charges of driving while intoxicated, fleeing an officer and possession of methamphetamine. He is in custody in Minnesota.

Vanez did not have any outstanding warrants but was charged with obstructing. He was released.
