There will be holiday goodies at many of the downtown businesses as well as special offers, shopping discounts and free gift wrapping. Also stop at Dania Hall for the third annual Phipps Center Holiday Art Fair.

The free carriage rides begin at the Hudson arch in Lakefront Park and make stops throughout downtown wherever you see a wooden soldier. Watch for complete details of the event at downtown businesses.

Octagon House

Also on Friday night, the St. Croix County Historical Society will hold its annual Light Up Night from 6-8 p.m. at the Octagon House, 1004 Third St., featuring guided tours of three houses, music and refreshments. Admission is charged and tickets must be purchased that night at the Octagon House; there are no advance sales. For more details see the story in the Community News section of this week's Star-Observer.

Reindeer reign

On Saturday, the popular Reindeer in the Park event will take place in Lakefront Park. Santa and his reindeer will greet children of all ages in the band shell from noon to 4 p.m.

The day's events include a reindeer ice-carving demonstration and the chance to spend some time with Santa and some of the reindeer, who are scheduled to arrive around 1 p.m. Visitors can also enjoy wagon rides throughout the downtown, meet with members of Hudson's Fire Department and get an up-close look at some of the HFD firetrucks.

The activity tent in Lakefront Park will be filled with child-friendly activities such as make-your-own evergreen decoration, reindeer food and ornament, plus participants can learn about holiday celebrations from years gone by.

Don't miss complimentary hot chocolate from Boy Scout packs 148 and 215, freshly made kettle corn and the family art day at The Phipps Center from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

All events are free.
