Three Raiders picked for WFCA All-Star Game
After being part of the most successful football season in team history last fall, Raider seniors Alex Burgess, Bryan Caffin and Dan Kelly will take the field one final time together for the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Charity All-Star Game July 20 in Oshkosh.
All three were selected to play for the North Large School team against the South at 5 p.m. at Titan Stadium on the campus of UW-Oshkosh. The game is a fundraiser for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, and players are asked to raise money for the cause. Last year over $300,000 was raised by participating players.
The three Raider seniors helped Hudson to a perfect 8-0 regular season record and the school's first outright Big Rivers Conference championship last fall. They advanced to the WIAA state semifinals for the first time ever before finishing with an overall record of 11-1.
Burgess, a 6-foot, 2-inch, 235-pound defensive lineman, and Caffin, a 6-3, 265-pound offensive lineman, were both named to the 2012 WFCA All-State First Team while Kelly, a 5-10, 175-pound defensive back, earned WFCA All-State honorable mention.
All three players were also named to the All-BRC First Team and WFCA All-Region Team.
Somerset coach Bruce Larson was named head coach of the North team for the game against the South that kicks off Saturday, July 20, at 5 p.m. Other area players named to the North squad include Eric Wunrow of River Falls, Reggie Larson and Tyler Ledbeter of Somerset and Bryce Byl of Osceola.
