Train hits car of woman who drove through crossing illegally
River Falls Wisconsin 2815 Prairie Drive / P.O. Box 25 54022

A woman who was late for her first day of work found more trouble than just with her boss.

Oconomowoc Police said the woman drove around a railroad crossing gate and a train hit the driver's side of her vehicle. Police captain Ron Buerger said the woman kept driving until he stopped her.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Feb. 7. The woman caused other people to be late for work, too, as the crossing was closed for an hour and a half so it could be inspected.

Everything was working properly; the woman had just chose to ignore the warning mechanisms. Buerger said the train was held up for awhile but eventually took off.

Neither the woman nor the train conductor was injured, but Buerger said the conductor was shaken up.
