Trudy Popenhagen is winner of Blakeman Award

Trudy Popenhagen of Xcel Energy was the winner of the Marie Blakeman Award at the annual Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau banquet Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the YMCA Camp St. Croix. The Large Business of the Year Award (more than 20 employees) went to Hudson's Christian Community Home. The Community Volunteer of the Year award went to Hudson High School student Katelyn Baier. She formed a foundation titled "Blankets for a Brighter Day" and with the help of others has, so far, donated 737 blankets to the Minneapolis Children's hospital. Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year award went to Traci Leffner, center. Also at the presentation were Chamber President Kim Heinemann, left, and last year's winner Pete Keskey. The tiara is part of a tradition with the award.6 / 6

Trudy Popenhagen was the winner of the Marie Blakeman Award at the annual Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau banquet Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the YMCA-Camp St. Croix.

In addition, several local people and businesses were recognized at the event.

Other awards included the Community Volunteer of the Year given award to Katelyn Baier; the Chamber Member of the Year given to Kathy Newman, owner of Et Cetera; Large Business of the Year given to Christian Community Home and Executive Director Dan Goodier; Small Business

of the Year given to RJs Meats and Groceries owned by Anne and Rick Reams; and the Chamber's Ambassador of the Year Award given to Traci Leffner of Sylvan Learning.

The banquet also included the introduction of the 2013 Chamber Board Chair Jim Wookey of WESTconsin Credit Union. He took the reins from LouAnne Berg of J&L Steel and Electrical Services.
